Overcoming the Lows: 8 Actions to Reclaim Your Energy

We all experience moments of low energy, mood swings, and overwhelming emotions. Even as someone generally seen as positive, I’ve found myself struggling with an undercurrent of discontent. Whether it’s burnout, uncertainty, or just life’s ebbs and flows, I’ve realised that what truly matters is how we respond during these times.

Here are eight simple yet effective actions that have helped me get back on track:

1. Exercise Daily

Even a little movement each day makes a difference. I know that lifting weights and rowing boost my mood and energy levels.

2. Take a Cold Plunge

Love it or hate it, a cold plunge gives me an instant sense of achievement. It wakes up my body and strengthens my mindset.

3. Prioritise Sleep

For years, I neglected sleep. Now, I’m making early nights a priority, and I can already feel the benefits.

4. Keep a Journal

Writing clears mental clutter and brings clarity. A few minutes a day can work wonders.

5. Reduce Alcohol

I enjoy a drink, but I’ve realised that unnecessary consumption affects my sleep and mood. Now, I choose when to drink more consciously.

6. Read More

There’s so much to learn and so many great stories to hear. I’m making reading a regular habit again.

7. Appreciate the Moment

When I’m feeling low, I notice that I also stop noticing the world around me. So, I make a conscious effort to lift my eyes, breathe deeply, and take in my surroundings.

8. Connect with Friends

I’ve always struggled to pick up the phone and call a friend, but I’m working on this. Talking to people who matter helps more than many of us realise.

These small, manageable actions can help us regain a sense of balance.

What’s one step you will take today to feel better?
