British Rowing Indoor Championships - get yourself entered!

There’s an opportunity coming. It’s the chance to set a goal, get fitter, stronger, learn a new skill or improve on an old. It’s the perfect way to kick-start a new year’s resolution, it’s the British Rowing Indoor Championships.

On the 8th February 2015 the London 2012 Olympic Velodrome will play host to a huge indoor rowing competition in which the current GB Rowing Team will be attending. Anyone who enters will get the chance to meet, mingle and race alongside numerous international rowers, World and Olympic medalists and we are hoping athletes from other sports too. It’s open to absolutely anyone and can be as fun or as serious as you want to make it, with a number of different entry options to choose from...

The Big One:

A full-on 2000m Olympic distance race. Perfect to test yourself against the best in the country. A chance to get a really good score under race conditions, reach your target and see all those years, months, weeks or maybe only days of training pay off! (I recommend doing a bit more than just a couple of days preparation for this!)

The Half:

Half the distance but still an eye watering, leg shaking test. 1000m is a really tough long sprint and perfect for anyone who fancies the challenge!

Paralympic rowers of all classifications are catered for over this distance too.

The Relay:

This is going to be so much fun. Get together a team of four, take 500m each and row for your life! It’s going to be fast, furious, noisy and as hectic as it gets in rowing. The time starts and doesn’t stop until the team has completed the 2000 meter distance, changeovers are included so get them as slick as can be!

Ages are divided into school year groups, and distance will depend on that group, there’s a race for all!

I think it’s going to be a really great event in a truly unique setting. Whether you choose to get a team of work colleagues together or set out on your own, why not get an entry in and make a move for that machine in the corner of the gym. I’m hoping to be part of a relay team so see you there!
